Live Transfer Best Practices from Top Performers
Live transfers are the highest-converting lead type in insurance. But not all agents get the same results. We interviewed the top 10% of our live transfer agents to uncover what they do differently.
Preparation is everything. Top performers have their quoting tools open and ready before they accept a transfer. They have scripts loaded, carrier portals logged in, and their CRM ready to capture notes. When the consumer comes on the line, they are ready to sell from second one.
The first 30 seconds set the tone. Our highest-converting agents use a warm, confident opening: "Hi [name], thanks for taking the time to speak with me today. I see you are looking for [product type] coverage. I am going to ask you a few quick questions so I can find you the best rate possible."
Active listening beats aggressive selling. Top agents spend 60-70% of the call listening. They ask open-ended questions about the consumer's situation, concerns, and goals. This builds trust and uncovers cross-sell opportunities.
Quote presentation matters. Rather than giving a single number, top agents present 2-3 options: a budget option, a recommended option, and a premium option. This gives the consumer a sense of control and anchors the conversation around the recommended plan.
The close should feel natural. After presenting options, the best agents say something like: "Based on what you have shared with me, I would recommend Option B. It gives you the coverage you need at a price that fits your budget. Shall I get you enrolled today?"
Follow-up is non-negotiable. Even with live transfers, not every call results in an immediate sale. Top performers send a follow-up text within 5 minutes of the call with a summary of what was discussed and the quoted rates. This keeps them top of mind.
The common thread among top performers is preparation, professionalism, and persistence. Live transfers give you the opportunity. What you do with that opportunity determines your success.
